Double action airbrush control
A double action airbrush is controlled by a finger control button on the top of the airbrush. Press the finger control button to turn on the air flow and release it to turn off the air flow. Double action airbrushes can be used by an artist. Through a finger button, the artist can control paint volume and air flow. The air flow can be turned on by pressing the finger button. The paint valve can be opened by pulling back the button. That is the reason why this kind of airbrush is called a double action airbrush.

The speed and control
At the time of airbrushing, time is quite important. Slowly moving over an area will deposit more paint than quickly moving over the same area. If the paint volume and distance are kept consistent, variable speeds of movement across a surface will create variations of color and density between slow and fast movements.

Double action airbrushing technique
Good technique comes with practice. Beginners should learn to master all the three controls at one time. To see exactly the effects of each control, beginners should practice controlling one control at a time.
1. First, practice controlling paint volume.
Push down the control button of a double action airbrush to keep air flow on constantly. Maintaining a steady distance and speed, vary the paint volume by pulling back and forth on the finger control button as you airbrush across a surface.
2. Second, practice controlling speed.
Do the same but maintain steady volume and distance but vary your speed across a surface.
3. Next, practice controlling distance.
Maintain a steady moving pace and paint volume but vary the distance to the surface.
Practice all three until you can see the effects of each control.
